Retail Park, Bradford

This project involved the construction of a new retail park consisting of a 14,000 sqft Aldi, a 16,500sqft Home Bargains, a 5,200 sqft Sue Ryder and a 5,200 sqft B&M Stores; together with two standalone units a 1,905sqft Starbucks drive-thru and a 1,100sqft Greggs.

The site was located on the site of the former Scott works engineering factory. Although the existing buildings had already been demolished, there were requirements for the uplift of the concrete slab and ground remediation to 1.5metres, to remove all concrete and steel obstructions on the site. Subsequent crushing resulted in Type 1 MOT material utilised during the cut and fill operation.

Following inclement weather and failing clay compaction, lime modification was used to stabilise the wet clay soil. This inevitably caused delay to the programme however the team were able to recover valuable weeks resulting in minimal delay for the client.

Vibro piling was undertaken on all 6 units and was completed in good time, this was followed by the foundation pours. The units are steel framed buildings and are cladded with composite panels, brickwork and shopfront glazing.
