AGRICULTURAL STORE, BOURNE

The project comprised of a 3 store, 4,500 tonne potato storage facility with specialised temperature controlling equipment and associated ground works in Bourne, Lincolnshire

Ground works included site investigations; site clearance including the topsoil strip and creation of the piling mat; external piling and concrete foundations. In addition, the installation of drainage piping including pipework to the attenuation dyke.

The project team together with agricultural specialist sub-contractors constructed the steel frame and meticulously installed the metal clad shell. As the project received EU funding through a DEFRA grant, the team had to adhere to a number of stringent guidelines including the delivery of an airtightness score of 3 or below. Our team delivered a score of 1.13 exceeding the Building Regulation bench mark set out in the DEFRA grant conditions and ensuring better crop storage for our client.

Refrigeration and ventilation equipment, bespoke to our clients requirements, has been installed and will provide flexible temperature control in the three potato stores. This technology is the first of its type in the country with our client having travelled to Holland to investigate its viability.

The project team consisted of Jessops Construction Site Manager Steve Hodgson who was supported by Construction Manager Mick Locke and Senior Quantity Surveyor Jo Gray.
