Performing Arts Building

The project involved the construction of a new performing arts centre on a tight site between two live buildings being used by students of Friesland School.

Before construction of the building could commence all existing services required investigation with main electric, gas, water, communication cabling and drainage requiring diversion whilst keeping the school operating which dictated the majority of these services requiring out of hours working.

The building was constructed without the use of a structural frame to ensure clean lines were maintained to the main hall walls, this required the use of a masonry diaphragm wall with an in situ concrete ring beam cap.

Strict acoustic measures were required to ensure the correct environment was achieved for performances. Classrooms were also formed for the school within the building which could also double up as changing facilities etc. for the hall which is also being used by the local community as well as Friesland School.
