Work Starts on Retail Development in Peterlee

Jessops Construction has started work on a brand new, £16million retail park in Peterlee, county Durham.

The scheme, will provide much needed regeneration to the town centre, increasing the retail offer in the area.

The retail park itself, located on the 6.36acre site will consist of five units for end users Lidl, Home Bargains and Sue Ryder. A further two drive-thru unit restaurants will be constructed for KFC and Starbucks.

The two larger stores for Lidl and Home Bargains will be roughly 2000sqm in size and both will be flanked by a smaller 464sqm Sue Ryder store in the centre. 227 car parking spaces will separate the retail units from the KFC drive-thru unit located next to the retail park entrance, off Essington Way with the smaller Starbucks unit adjacent.

On behalf of long standing client Quora, Jessops Construction will go further and regenerate pedestrian underpasses located nearby to the site. This will ensure the free flow of foot traffic to the existing town centre, encouraging movement in both directions.
Contractor Jessops Construction, has a proven track record of collaborative work in local communities and as such, have already introduced themselves to a number of local education providers and businesses in the area.

The project will be Jessops' most northerly scheme to date and will be led by Contracts Manager, Richard Davies and experienced Site Manager, Phil Deakin, having recently completed a similar scheme in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Richard said "We are delighted to be starting work on this significant scheme in Peterlee. The new retail park has been welcomed by the vast majority, with many residents very much in favour of the opportunities that the development will bring to the town. We are committed to involving the local community in the project and look forward to working closely with them over the next year."

Local schools are encouraged to make contact with the Jessops Construction to express their interest in being involved in an artwork project that will adorn the exterior perimeter fencing, for more information please contact Michelle Thomas michelle.thomas@jessopsconstruction.co.uk

Shell & core works on the site are expected to complete in winter 2020 with respective interior fit outs commencing subsequently, in readiness for unit opening.
