Engaging Local Communities

Jessops Construction take pride in actively engaging the communities surrounding our construction sites. We make every attempt to be a catalyst in bringing those communities together in order to leave a lasting legacy.
Our East Grinstead project was no different. This site was particularly challenging, the previous developer had gone into administration and the site was left untouched for the best part of two years. The surrounding businesses and residents were unsatisfied with the unsightly appearance of the site and this caused many frustrations.
When Jessops Construction secured the building works contract, it was important that we were able to alter this negative impression of construction. We immediately engaged with active representatives of local social groups and it was soon evident that a community project would be of benefit.
In December 2017 we invited local groups to submit artwork depicting their much loved town. We were inundated with a wide range of submissions from a variety of groups of all ages, capturing the vibrance and prevalent sense of community that this West Sussex town possesses.
The artwork was submitted in a variety of different media, from collage to photograph; sketch to acrylic painting, this made consistency in aesthetics rather challenging. However, not to be deterred, we contacted a local sign printing company who suggested that the artwork was printed onto eyelet banners. This relationship was mutually beneficial in that we were able to negotiate a preferential rate in return for the company's branding on the banners.
The result was a fantastic community led project, with Jessops Construction creating a lasting impact on this community. The positive feedback received has affirmed our desire to promote construction and the industry as a whole.
The project has also received independent confirmation of its success, achieving 'Runners Up' in the Considerate Constructors, Ivor Goodsite 2018 Hoarding Competition. The judges complemented Jessops on their 'all-embracing neighbourhood involvement'.
