Coast to Coast Conquerors

The team at Jessops Construction, along with a colleague from Cynergi Ltd cycled the gruelling 140 mile, Coast to Coast route to raise money for two worthwhile charities – Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Eresby School.

The cross country challenge began on 16th August with a cycle from Whitehaven to Keswick at an ascent of 2500ft.  Following a few slight technical hitches, the team set off on their steady 31 mile cycle. Although challenging, our intrepid cyclists enjoyed some beautiful countryside and were blessed with great weather to put them in good stead for the remainder of their cycle.

Day two was dubbed ‘The Tough One’ – with 48 miles to cover as well as a climb of just under an eye-watering 4200feet, the team were prepared for a difficult day. The route took them from Keswick, through the Cumbrian Countryside to Alston, where they ended their second day.
A steadier day of cycling was ahead of them on Day 3…or so they thought! Day 3 was the ‘Understated Day’ the team cycled 40 miles and from Alston to Castledine. A 3972 foot climb faced them today but our team rallied and managed to complete it. There was some walking, however some members of the group managed even the steepest of hill climbs.

Day four arrived, and so did the weather! The route from Castledine to Tynemouth was another lengthy one with 43 miles to cover. Visibility and cold made this day tested the group’s endurance to the limit. Having already covered 119 miles, the fatigue was starting to set in. Again they rallied and they ended on a high with family members surprising them at the finish.

Lincs and Notts air ambulance provides much needed specialist life-saving medical assistance to people when they need it. The helicopter can reach any point in the two counties in less than 20 minutes and on average can transfer a patient to hospital within 8 minutes…this all comes at a price. Each mission costs over £2100 and they fly at least 3 per day, every day. This means that each year they need to raise £2.1M to keep flying and saving lives.
Eresby School is a small special school, based in the market town of Spilsby, Lincolnshire. Students have Severe to moderate Learning Difficulties and complex needs. They have wide ranging needs including those with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, varying degrees of developmental delay, profound and multiple difficulties and Sensory Difficulties.

Although the fundraising pages are still active, so far the team have raised over £2000 for the charities. If you would like to donate please follow the links for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Eresby School.
